Linux Rescue Environment

o
Linux Rescue Process:

§ Need boot disk (Floppy or CD)

§ Commands to know:

§ fsck

§ fdisk

§ e2label (changing labels on a particular partition)

§ sync (Writing information from buffering memory to disk)

o To make a boot disk:

§ /sbin/mkbootdisk

§ ls /lib/modules

§ 2.6.1 2.6.1-1.126 2.6.1-1.126smp

§ mkbootdisk --device /dev/fd0 2.6.1

o Booting from the 1st CD

§ boot: linux rescue

§ Choose a Language: English

§ Keyboard Type: us

§ Running anaconda ....

§ Rescue: (Everything is under /mnt/sysimage/ )

        • Continue: (Normal Rescue Mode)
          • the system has been mounted under /mnt/sysimage/
          • chroot /mnt/sysimage/
          • the system will reboot when exiting from the shell
          • OK
          • ls /usr/bin | more
          • ls /usr/sbin | more
        • Read-Only:
        • Skip: (Minimal Rescue Mode.. is not gonna mount)
